Working Drawings (Cartoons) for Masonic Temple, Swansea

Available for sale

A group of 7 working drawings assumed to be for production of stained glass windows based on Lodge Badges for a Masonic Temple in Swansea, South Wales.

All the lodges represented are thought to still be in existence and meet at the Swansea Masonic Hall.

Six of the drawings include the Order No 4046A and are evidently a set with sequential drawing numbers, and the same studio mark, whereas one (Dr James Griffiths Hall) has the order 4046, a non-sequential number and is on a different paper.

The drawings are pierced with nail holes, as a result of their being used in the process of 'leading-up' the window.

Thomas William Camm is thought to have founded the studio in the 1860's and after his death in 1912 the business was carried on by his children. Florence Camm 1874 - 1960, was a notable artisit in the medium, and we have a couple of (non-masonic) cartoons attributed to her.
